The South African Jewish Museum

SAJM Website

Situated in the "Museum Mile" in central Cape Town, the South African Jewish Museum offers visitors a truly unique experience with its bold architectural design, interactive multi-media displays and engaging accounts of South African Jewish history.

One of Flatspin's most beautiful websites to date. The SAJM came to us for a complete design makeover, wanting a website that would capture the spirit of South Africa's rich Jewish heritage. Many painstaking hours were spent with director Shea Albert and in-house designer George Reeves as we crafted this site into a design that reflects the beauty of the museum itself.

SAJM Discovery Centre (touch screen presentation)

The South African Museum commissioned Flatspin to develop an interactive touch-screen presentation for their Discovery Centre in the museum. Browsers can discover their European roots and learn more about the South African destinations of their Jewish ancestors. Family trees are also accessible via the Discovery Centre, as well as a compehensive listing of Jewish Life in Cape Town. The interface combines Flash with dynamic ASP pages, and all content in modifiable via the SMI.

SAJM Netsuke Collection (touch screen presentation)
	The South African Jewish Museum required a touch-screen interface to display their collection of Japanese miniature art - the Isaac Kaplan Netsuke Collection. Users can browse through a history of the collection and look up individual art pieces. The interface combines Flash with dynamic ASP pages, and all content in modifiable via the SMI.

The Legal Resources Centre (LRC)

The LRC, South Africa's largest public interest law centre, wanted to present themselves in a more dynamic fashion while at the same time highlighting the ground-breaking, precedent-setting work that they achieve. Prior to the new site release, attention was less focused on the pedigree of the organisation. At the same time, the LRC also wished to give the site a human touch by telling the true stories about the people that they've helped.

The resulting website showcases their work as an NGO, highlighting various articles, cases and judgements within the South African legal system. The site incorporates a host of functional elements that are designed to assist the organisation with their marketing and day-to-day business activities.

A huge behind-the-scenes Site Management Interface takes care of site content, mailing list subscribers, monthly newsletters, online donations and document archiving. All this ensures that the Legal Resources Centre enjoys one of the finest NGO websites in South Africa.

The world of IT can be daunting for an outsider, but the team at Flatspin made every effort to explain concisely and clearly how our vision could become a reality. From the moment I approached Flatspin on behalf of NICRO to provide a quote for the NICRO website, I was met with enthusiasm, efficiency, creativity and an overwhelming 'can do' attitude. Working on the site was a pleasure as each request was possible, each whim something to consider.

The Cape Institute for Architecture wanted an elegant website that would attract new membership and add value for their existing members. The focus of this offering is on creating an enhanced network between members. This has been achieved via functionality that includes an extensive member database, events and employment notices, links and much more. All content is updateable via an intricate Site Management Interface, and feedback received from CIfA's members thus far has been fantastic.

Cybercellar

Platter Online Wine Guide
	The John Platter South African Wine Guide is the most comprehensive, up-to-date and authoritative chronicle of who's who and what's what in South African wine country. The website is created around a complex SQL Server database that contains a comprehensive list of South African wines and wineries. http://www.platteronline.com

Cybercellar Wines

This is probably the most comprehensive e-commerce website that we've built to date. Cybercellar.com is an established wine marketing, distribution, consulting and web enablement company based in the Cape Winelands. Fully e-commerce enabled, Cybercellar.com currently retails over 1000 specially selected South African wines from nearly 250 different producers to clients all over the world.

Kurt Schoonraad

One of South Africa's top comedians, Kurt required a fun website that would enhance his profile and facilitate corporate bookings. Browsers can download sound clips of Kurt in action, as well as high resolution images for print.

Providence Systems

Providence Coaching Systems, based in Cape Town, South Africa, is Africa’s premier one-on-one business and personal coaching company. We created an informative site for Providence Coaching Systems with a strong focus on their existing branding. Clients are issued with usernames and passwords and can log-in to a secure Member's Section to update and review their profiles and progress online.

Quartz Carpet

Quartz Carpet is the fastest growing flooring system in the world that has taken North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia by storm and is now doing the same in South Africa. They required a simple, yet elegant web presence to market their stone-flooring product. The website makes use of Flash for the colour chart, and has a dynamic photo gallery that can be fully manipulated by the client.

Mary Ovenstone

Mary Ovenstone is a psychotherapist trained in Canada and the U.S.A. She returned to South Africa in 1999 and runs a successful counseling practice in Cape Town. A frequent guest on radio and TV, she speaks and conducts workshops throughout Southern Africa, Europe and North America. She is currently writing a book on midlife and the rite of passage into Elderhood she has developed, and will follow up with a book on raising boys for mothers.

The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), organized in 1980 to bring together researchers, practitioners, and users of various types of impact assessment from all parts of the world. Leyden Properties

Leyden Properties wanted a website to promote their properties (both for sale and rent). They are able, via the Site Management Interface, to create new areas and add/update/delete properties within each area. Each property can have up to eight photographs associated with it. Together with an HTML newsletter generator, Leyden is now able to advertise it's properties to an ever-increasing spectrum of potential buyers.

Southern African Legal Assistance Network (SALAN)

It has been an absolute pleasure working with Flatspin over the past few years! They are creative in their approach, highly efficient and extremely responsive to the complex needs of a website like SALAN's, which covers most of the countries in the Southern African region. Molweni Game Reserve

Molweni Private Game Reserve is situated in the wilderness of the Eastern Cape. Chris and Tamsin Bush requested a brochure-type website that would present their activities and services in a simple, elegant manner. Images were carefully selected to portray the atmosphere of Molweni's unique bush experience. The site is created entirely in CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), so future design changes can be made quickly and easily.

Police Accountability

In an effort to spread information, analysis and awareness about the issues involved in the oversight of the police, a Joint Project of the Open Society Foundation for South Africa and the Open Society Justice Initiative has funded the setting up of a website devoted to the issue of police accountability. A recent review of the website concluded that it is one of the most useful and interesting websites devoted to policing issues in the world.

This website, developed using Flash, allows Graeme Robinson to present his work as a visual slideshow. Photographs are divided into various categories, and viewers have the option of clicking through the pictures manually - or selecting an 'autoplay' option.

The website was developed together with a Site Management Interface that allows Graeme to create new categories and upload all images. The result is a great combination of Flash elegance and ASP functionality.

Woodstock Community Site

The Woodstock Community website is a project taken on by Flatspin as a free service to the residents and businesses of Woodstock. People have been given the opportunity to advertise their services and events, post notices, display photos, write compositions - and generally contribute content to their own website. The website also serves as a mouthpiece for the Business and Resident's Associations of Woodstock.

This informative website was created by Flatspin's friend and colleague in Germany, Michael Antrag. Open Society Foundation (OSF)

The OSF-SA is committed to promoting the values, institutions and practices of an open, non-racial and non-sexist, democratic, civil society. It is a member of the International Soros Foundations Network.

The OSF needed a platform where they could store valuable information for research and academic purposes. They are now able to upload their own WORD and PDF files, as well as articles and pictures that appear as HTML pages within the website.

Zimbabwe Institute

The Zimbabwe Institute is dedicated to influencing policy development in Zimbabwe according to social democratic principles. The website helps to achieve these goals with dynamic publications, articles, links and a (very popular) guest book for comments.
